With its peak of 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), Mt. Meru is the fifth-highest mountain in Africa and
the second-highest mountain in Tanzania. Located in Arusha National Park, Mt. Meru is also an
active (but dormant) volcano that hosts a diverse ecosystem.
While not as acclaimed or intense as Mt. Kilimanjaro, trekking Meru is a unique journey that combines high-elevation climbing, incredible scenery (including waterfalls), and a walking safari with abundant wildlife.
At Afrikabisa, we offer personalized climbing tours for individuals and groups of all sizes.

Given the nickname “Kilimanjaro’s little brother,” Mt. Meru is often overlooked by climbers. However, there are several excellent reasons to consider Meru for your next adventure.
Many climbers choose to climb Mt. Meru first to get ready for the physical challenge and altitude acclimatization of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Early on the trek, you will walk through a lush landscape and have a chance to see a wide variety of wildlife, including monkeys, zebras, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and many species of birds. Don’t worry – an armed park ranger will accompany your climbing group for your safety.
Not as busy – If you want a peaceful adventure without sharing the trail with many others, then Mt. Meru is ideal. You will still enjoy amazing views without the heavy crowds Kilimanjaro draws.
We understand that there are many tour operators on Mount Meru, and that the choice can be difficult or overwhelming. Here is what sets Afrikabisa apart from the rest.
We are a 100% locally owned and operated company. Some larger tour operators promote a “local presence” but are really based in another country. Our founder and owner is from Moshi, Tanzania, and only hires local team members to support the regional economy.
As an ethical tour company, we are committed to providing fair working conditions for porters and treating our entire team with dignity and respect.
We take pride in delivering first-class and providing our guests with delightful surprises throughout the trip.
Climbing Mt. Meru typically takes three or four days to complete. You’ll begin your adventure in an African rainforest and finish with a breathtaking summit view overlooking a volcanic creator. We recommend booking your trip between June and December to avoid the rainy months in Tanzania.
Afrikabisa tours are personalized to your needs and interests. Once you choose your desired
route and any add-on adventures before or after your climb, we provide a custom itinerary and pricing options.

Afrikabisa was incredibly welcoming and offered such a genuine and exciting experience. I think what really sets them a part is their willingness to listen, curate and improve their tours every single time which again, shows their authenticity and that they truly care. It also allows them to closely tend to their customer's well-being and experience.
Hendry and his team combine knowledge with enthusiasm and expertise in order to provide what can only be described as a first rate, unparalleled experience…. Every single guide and porter was passionate about helping me reach the summit in a safe, responsible manner.
Afrikabisa was a phenomenal company to guide my trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro. I left that mountain feeling like I gained a family. The guides and porters anticipated our every move and provided care that was at a level higher than I could have ever expected. They taught us about the mountain and made every step of the trip better.
